Larger benthic foraminifera crawling upwards out of the coral debris
For most of our culture studies we collect small benthic foraminifera (Ammonia) from the tidal flat 'De Mokbaai' on Texel. However, for some of our experiments we want to use tropical larger benthic species. For this purpose we collect coral debris from one of the largest indo-pacific coral reef aquaria in the world, at Burger Zoo, the Netherlands. This debris contains large amounts of Amphistegina and Heterostegina.
